This is great. My take is that writers dramatise ‘everything’ (sorry for huge generalisation) and if life is more prominent than writing then they over-dramatise that. When I’m really writing, frequently and committedly, I put all the drama into the story and have a calm, ordinary view of my life.
When I’m not writing, I dramatise my life instead and that’s when the wild, extreme, narratives such as I will die poor and unloved and I have wasted my life or we are all about to be annihilated by a bomb or I have cancer and don’t yet know it, etc etc. Do you see what I mean? A storyteller makes up stories!
I loved your counselling style and your clients are lucky to have such a thoughtful and insightful coach.
okay, thank you!! I have been thinking of your comment ever since you posted and have been meaning to write back. Everything you said!!! That is me to a T. When I'm not writing that's where the drama heads, and we want it on the page not in life. This is so true and wise.
I love your whole office! Definitely need to sit with this piece. I’m feeling a little like I’ve been called out on my BS 🤣

So damn true
This was very thought provoking. I’m pretty good at storytelling, not so good at writing them down because …. That’s a whole other story
